Zonk Review Game
Children love this review game and there are so many different versions and ways of playing.
Place point values into a bag along with two or more zonk pieces. Some examples:
-
You can place values on red checker pieces and all black checker pieces are zonk pieces. Use poker chips instead of checker pieces.
-
Place point values and the word zonk on slips of paper and fold in half into the bag.
Try to make the point values large numbers (1,000, 10,000, 20,000) as they are more exciting than smaller numbers (1, 10, 20) to the children.
To Play:
When the child answers the question correctly, he draws out a checker piece, piece of paper etc. and determines if it is a point value or a zonk. If it is a point value the child can continue to draw or stop at any time. If the child stops, all point values for their turn are added up and that is their rounds score. If a zonk chip is pulled out, any points for that round are deleted.
Examples: Jane pulls out a 100 chip and says continue. She pulls out a 200 chip and says stop. Her score this turn is 300. Next time, Jane pulls out a 100 chip and says continue. She pulls out a zonk chip. Her score is 0. Jane had 300 her first turn and 0 her second turn so her total score is 300.
This game can be played on teams or with individuals depending upon the number of children playing. The children like to egg eachother on and as the teacher you can have fun by saying things like "are you sure you (don't) want to try again?" It is quickly going to become your child's favorite review game.
Zonk Pieces
