Ten Commandments

Children need to know that God has given us special rules to live by.

For a few years now, I have wanted my GNC to memorize the Ten Commandments. Since we are teaching about God giving the commandments to Moses this fall, I decided this is the time. I wanted them to have the list of commandments to take home, so they could work on them. So, I made a laminated sheet for each child with the Ten Commandments listed, and a picture of a stormy mountain peak at the bottom of the page, to remind the child that God wanted the people of Israel and all people to pay attention. This was important to God.

We will review the commandments together every week in GNC, with the goal that every child will have them memorized. The children will receive a special Bible for memorizing the commandments and 10 verses.

Good News Club Store

How are your kids behaving in club? Do you need or want something more rewarding than the units reward chart? How about an incentive program that can last longer?

One of the original ideas for Good News Clubs was to offer a “Good News Club Store”. The concept was simple. Children accumulate “dollars” for their behavior and at a set time (usually for a Christmas party and end of year party) they would be able to “spend” their dollars at the “store”.

Sample Reward system:

  • Attendance - earn one dollar
  • Bring a friend – earn three dollars
  • Bring a bible – earn two dollars
  • Memorize your verse – earn five dollars
  • Wear your t-shirt - earn two dollars
  • Complete devotional assignment – earn a dollar a page

GNC Store Item ideas: Stickers, candy, pencils, stationary, yo’yo’s, bibles, books, jewelry, devotional books, keychains, craft projects, evangecubes, keychains, book marks, gently used items from home they could purchase as gifts for family members, and more.

Price the items according to their size and how many dollars everyone has earned so everyone can afford to buy something.

Keep the children’s dollars in their own envelope but keep in your club materials from week to week so they don’t get lost or misplaced. When they arrive, give them their envelopes. When all are present, pass out the attendance dollar. When they recite their verse, give all the remaining dollars earned. Have them turn in their envelopes at this time.

Print out the dollar denominations in different colors so it is easier to decipher which is which.

Pledges

How are you starting your club? Do you remember when school used to start with the saying of the pledge of allegiance? Now you can start your club, with an allegiance. Teach the kids to pledge their allegiance to the Christian Flag and the Bible. See the pdf's attached for each of these pledges.

Do you have another great way you have found to start your club? What do you think of these pledges? Submit your ideas and keep the knowledge going.
